Mahjong Social help and support

Mahjong Social is a free personal hobby project by Jeffrey Li. Contact lichunngai@gmail.com for help. Do not send passwords or session cookies.

Install and play

  1. Use desktop Chrome. Open Mahjong Social in Google Workspace Marketplace and install it with the Google account you use for Meet. The listing is unlisted: use this direct link. Installation becomes available to friends after Google approves the listing; organization administrators may control add-on access.
  2. Join the same Google Meet call as your friends. Open Meeting tools or Activities, then Mahjong Social.
  3. The host enters a nickname and creates a table in the side panel, then chooses Start activity. If the activity does not open on the first attempt, choose Retry.
  4. Friends join the shared activity and enter their own nicknames. Wait until everyone has joined the table before starting the match.
  5. Open Settings to fill remaining seats with bots if needed, then choose Draw lots & start match.
  6. Choose a tile in your hand and use Discard when it is your turn. Claims and wins appear as available actions.
  7. Use Scores or the Mahjong Social side panel for match scores and room controls. Each player has a private hand: do not screen-share it.

No separate Mahjong Social account, payment or special game credentials are required. Reviewers can create a table and fill empty seats with bots to exercise the game with one account. Two human players should use separate devices or separate Chrome profiles.

Browser, phone and tablet play

You can open the browser game alongside a Meet call and share its table invitation before starting. Native phone and tablet Meet add-ons are not included. Browser and Meet seats use separate guest identities, so switching context or device does not transfer an existing seat. Late arrivals can spectate; use a new table to include them as players.

Reconnecting and problems

Reopening the same table in the same browser context restores its guest seat while the session cookie remains. Clearing cookies may lose access to that seat. If the Meet activity initially fails, try Retry. Contact the developer if it still cannot open.

Each player may use their own Meet tab, browser profile or device. Your Mahjong seat belongs to that tab, not your Google account. Keep the tab open to retain it; refresh reconnects to the same seat. A copied tab gets a separate player session while the original is open. If duplicate tabs cannot confirm their sessions, close the duplicate and open a fresh tab. Switching Google accounts inside an existing tab does not transfer the Mahjong seat; use a new tab for a different player.

For a bug report, include the steps, approximate time, browser version and visible error. Avoid screenshots containing private hands, session credentials or personal meeting information.

Privacy and deletion

See the privacy notice for what the game processes and retains. Contact lichunngai@gmail.com with your room ID and nickname for data requests; do not send passwords or session cookies.

Opt out of draft testing

If you are an invited draft tester, email lichunngai@gmail.com from the tester account with subject "Mahjong Social draft tester opt-out". The developer will remove the account from the draft tester list. You can also uninstall the add-on in Google Workspace Marketplace.
